With 1,000 days to go to Tokyo 2020, the Paralympic colours fill the night

There are exactly 1,000 days to go to the opening of the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, and the night sky was today glowing with the Paralympic colours

Throughout the city, everybody could see Tokyo Tower, the Tokyo Metropolitan Building and the Tokyo Sky Tree – the world's tallest tower – illuminated in red, blue, and green, the colours of the three Paralympic Agitos symbols.

It was the climax of a day of celebration where everyone had the chance to experience Para sport and meet with Paralympic athletes. Paralympic wheelchair fencer Beatrice Vio from Italy and Japan's Olympic fencer Yuki Ota explained the similarities and differences of their sports, while Paralympian Kento Kato played Football 5–a–side with some of the children. Finally, Paralympian Kento Masaki gave a demonstration of Judo.

An educational event for elementary school kids about the inclusion of people with impairments through Para sport also took place, featuring Keiichi Kimura, the Paralympic Swimming silver medallist.

Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike and X Japan's drummer Yoshiki then unveiled a special countdown display. With 1,000 days to go, Tokyo 2020 is more committed than ever to helping to bring positive change to society and achieve "Unity in Diversity".
