Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe Greets Japanese Athletes in Rio

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Hirokazu Matsuno and Commissioner of the Japan Sports Agency Daichi Suzuki visited the Tokyo 2020 JAPAN HOUSE exhibition in Rio de Janeiro on August 21 and expressed their gratitude for the strong performance of Japanese athletes at the Rio 2016 Games.

Japanese delegation chief Seiko Hashimoto and 28 athletes, including wrestler Saori Yoshida, the Japanese delegation team captain, attended the event. Prime Minister Abe greeted each athlete individually and thanked them for their performances.

The Japanese Delegation won a total of 41 medals - 12 Gold, 8 Silver and 21 Bronze - during the Rio 2016 Games, Japan's best ever performance in an Olympics.
