2nd NOC Open Days

The NOC delegation

From Tuesday, August 1, to Thursday, August 3, the Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games hosted delegations from National Olympic Committees (NOCs) as part of NOC Open Days, a programme designed to give NOC representatives a chance to visit venues to be used during the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020 and be briefed on the status of the Organising Committee's preparations.

The programme, which was held for the second time, was scheduled during the summer so that the participants could experience Japan during the same time of year the Tokyo 2020 Games will be held. A total of 41 participants representing the following 20 countries attended: Australia, Bahrain, Congo, Chile, Croatia, Spain, Estonia, France, Ireland, Israel, Kazakhstan, the Republic of Korea, Saudi Arabia, Lithuania, Norway, the Philippines, Slovenia, Serbia, Sweden, and Japan.

On the first day of the event, participants were briefed by various Organising Committee bureaus. Even though three years of preparations remain, NOC representatives asked specific questions about topics such as the Olympic Village construction and the routes and travel times to venues and airports.

Over the course of the following two days, participants visited more than 20 sites in and around Tokyo, including competition venues and the Olympic Village. They also visited the Ground Self-Defense Force's Camp Asaka in Nerima City as well as venues in Saitama, including the Kasumigaseki Country Club in Kawagoe City, Saitama Prefecture, to deepen their understanding of the preparations for the Olympic and Paralympic Games. The NOC representatives actively participated in the tours and enthusiastically listened to the explanations they received.

The Organising Committee plans to host three more NOC group visits (in the form of Open Days programmes) by 2019 as well as the Chefs de Mission Seminar in the summer of 2019.
