During both the Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic closing ceremonies, the Olympic and Paralympic flags will be officially handed over to the next host city, Tokyo.

Overview of the Flag Handover Ceremonies

During the closing ceremonies of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, the Olympic flags was handed over to Tokyo. These symbolic moments was followed by an eight-minute show to introduce the capital of Japan to the rest of the world. Also, during the closing ceremonies of the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games, the Paralympic flags will be handed over to Tokyo.

Tokyo 2020 Live Sites in 2016 - from Rio to Tokyo -The Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government will establish Tokyo 2020 Live Sites in 2016―from Rio to Tokyo, during the period of the Rio de Janeiro Olympic and Paralympic Games.Tokyo 2020 Live Sites in 2016 - from Rio to Tokyo -The Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government will establish Tokyo 2020 Live Sites in 2016―from Rio to Tokyo, during the period of the Rio de Janeiro Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Tokyo 2020 Live Sites in 2016

The Live Sites will be held as an official program of the Olympic and Paralympic Games. At the Live Sites, visitors will be able to view exciting live broadcasts shown on a jumbo screen outside competition venues, enjoy stage events, and experience Olympic/Paralympic sports on a trial basis.
Specifically, the Live Sites will feature, among other things: live broadcasts of the opening and closing ceremonies and sports competitions on a large screen; talk shows and live music performances held onstage; an area where visitors can experience Olympic/Paralympic sports; realistic video content that offers high-resolution images of athletes’ performances and the Tokyo Vision 2020 (only at Ueno Park); information on the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games; sales of the Games’ licensed products; and exhibition booths organized by Tokyo 2020 partners.

Hosted mainly by the Tokyo Organising Committee of the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games, Tokyo Metropolitan Government, Japanese Olympic Committee and Japanese Paralympic Committee, the Tokyo 2020 JAPAN HOUSE serves to promote the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the host of the Games (Tokyo), and Japan as a whole from its location in Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The JAPAN HOUSE will also include sections that can be enjoyed by members of the general public.
